Step 1
Choose a PNG, JPEG or WebP up to 10 MB. Portraits, pets, landscapes and illustrations all give you different shapes to play with.
Step 2
Choose a grid width of 32, 64 or 128 pixels and a palette of up to 8, 16 or 32 colors. Compare the result with your original as you go.
Step 3
Download your pixel art enlarged by 8× without smoothing. The exact grid and download dimensions appear in the tool before you save.
A 32-pixel grid creates chunky blocks; 128 pixels keeps more detail. This image to pixel art converter calculates the height from your photo’s proportions.
The converter builds a limited palette from your image. Fewer colors simplify the picture; more colors keep extra shading. Transparent areas stay transparent.
PNG export enlarges each grid cell into an 8 × 8 block with no smoothing. Everything happens locally, with no signup, image upload to a server, or watermark.
No. It samples your photo onto a small grid and reduces the colors. It does not redraw the subject, remove the background or add new details.
The full image is retained. The grid height is rounded to the nearest whole pixel to preserve your image’s proportions as closely as the grid allows. Very tall images that would exceed 1,024 grid rows are rejected; try a smaller grid width.
Each grid cell becomes an 8 × 8 block in the exported PNG. For example, a 64 × 64 grid downloads as 512 × 512 pixels. The tool shows the exact output dimensions. It exports a single still PNG, not a vector, animation or sprite sheet.
Use PNG, JPEG or WebP files up to 10 MB and 32 megapixels. Existing transparency is retained, but backgrounds are not removed. All image processing stays in your browser. Try a smaller file if your phone has trouble opening it.
